Secrets of Safety-Net Parenting

Parenting styles can be very different, but one thing that parents all have in common is that they want success for their children. Parents want their children to do well in school, to succeed on the field or the stage, to find loyal friends, to go to college, to find an exciting career, to make a big salary, to own their own home, to find the partner of their dreams, and to raise an amazing family of their own. Parents want success for their children…but why?

Because, ultimately, when you strip everything to the core, what parents want is happiness for their children. It’s not really the success, but it’s the happiness that the success brings, and that’s ultimately what parents want for their children, for them to be happy.

There are different parenting styles:  the Helicopter Parents who hover to be sure their child reaches success, the Tiger Moms who “push” their children into success, the Free Range Parents who allow their children to explore the world and stumble upon success on their own, the Snow Plow parents who remove all obstacles in their child’s path to success.

Thanks to Leon Scott Baxter, there is a new parenting style, that raises successful children...who are happy, "Safety-Net Parents."

Safety-Net Parents give their children guidance and opportunities. They help them discover their passions and strengthen them. The let them experience life, especially failure, but are always there to catch them before they crash, like a safety-net.

The Secrets of Safety-Net Parenting is full of humor, anecdotes, hands-on strategies parents of toddlers, grade schoolers and teens can use right away, as well as questions parents ask and the answers they need.

Baxter interviewed some of the most happy and successful young people and their parents to discover the common denominator among them and bottled that "secret sauce" in the pages of his book, "The Secrets of Safety-Net Parents."
